Speaking of annoying radio commercials, the new line of ads promoting NBC’s primetime shows is one of the most annoying things I’ve ever heard– which is difficult to achieve because I can’t think of a single commercial that isn’t annoying. I don’t know if anyone else has heard these things; I assume it’s a national campaign because I don’t think any local entity would have the resources to create something with this magnitude of annoying.
The ads, like most radio ads, feature people to each other, except in this case there’s no point or situation to their dialog. It’s just three people talking about NBC shows like “real” people would.
Ad Exec: “I want them to talk like real people talk.”
Writer: “You mean like idiots?”
Ad Exec: “Precisely.”
So they put together three stereotypical characters and made them love NBC with cult-like fervor.
Cool Guy: “Have you heard about the new NBC show that’s on tonight?”
Funny Guy: “I’ve heard that it’s the greatest show in the history of broadcasting.”
Cool Guy: “Its funny you should mention that, Funny Guy, because it is.”
Female: “Do you have a list of bullet points giving reasons as to why people in our demographic would enjoy said show?”
Cool Guy: “Indeed I do. Let me just run through these quick.”
Wow, it’s like reality TV in commercial form.
