Ohhhh right… I forgot about this thing. I suppose I should update…
Well, a whole month has gone by. I was going to post earlier, but then... I didn’t. In any event, there have been a few things going on that warrant discussion. First is the heat, and the news coverage thereof. A few weeks ago it was hot in California, and every newscast mentioned it. Then the heatwave moved across the country and we, thankfully, heard nothing. Then it hit New York and I couldn’t turn on a TV or radio without hearing about it.
It seems as though the news editors realized that weather isn’t news… unless it’s happening to somebody important like themselves.
Midwesterner: “How’ve you been?” New Yorker: “Fascinating.”
Midwesterner: “Oh… Well, did you hear about what happened to me the other day?”
New Yorker: “Only if it happened to me, as well.”
The other thing that needs to be brought up is the realization of the nightmare scenario that I outlined in my lottery post a while back. It turns out that a lottery pool at a cheese factory in Wisconsin (ha) netted all of the workers a cut of the $200 million Powerball jackpot, except for one woman who was on vacation and didn’t put in a dollar.
Co-worker: “How was your vacation?”
Vacationer: “Very relaxing. Just what I needed. I feel like a million bucks.”
Co-worker: “Huh… It’s funny you should say that... especially funny for people who aren’t you.”
See you in a month.
