If there’s one phenomenon that I find fascinating, it’s lines. Whenever a line forms somewhere, it’s front-page news. The latest example of this is the PlayStation3 line hysteria that is sweeping the media. But it doesn’t matter that it was the PS3 – it could have been anything, and as soon as a line started forming people would have gotten into it. It’s been over a year since the last good line. People were craving it.
Person1: “It’s been a while since we’ve gone camping.”
Person2: “Well, there haven’t been any good movies.”
But a new wrinkle has developed in this story. Suddenly the line situation in this country seems to have become a divisive issue. On the one hand, there are those people who will get into any line, no matter where it leads or what it’s for.
Person1: “Did you hear about the new videogame that’s coming out?”
Person2: “Yeah. So what?”
Person1: “I hear people might line up for it.” Person2: “You get the tent. I’ll call into work and quit.”
On the other hand, there seems to be people that are stridently anti-line, for reasons that I can’t even fathom.
Person1: “Did you hear about the new videogame that’s coming out?”
Person2: “Yeah. So what?”
Person1: “I hear people might line up for it.” Person2: “Get my gun.”
I’m surprised the line issue wasn’t a larger factor in the mid-term elections.
